It is important to ensure that all personnel on site have access to accurate, up to date technical information on the many products, materials and equipment used on a project.  In most cases individual products are not used in isolation, but form part of a building process. Also a particular manufacturer and/or supplier requirements for handling, storage, preparation, installation, finishing and protection of their product can vary from what might be considered the norm. Access to technical information can help overcome this potential problem.

Warranties - Steelformers ceiling batten
1.5
WARRANTY - MANUFACTURER/SUPPLIER

Provide a material manufacturer/supplier warranty:

15 years

For Steelformers branded products against defects in materials under normal use.

  • Provide this warranty on the manufacturer/supplier standard form (if not available then use the standard form in the general section 1237WA WARRANTY AGREEMENT)
  • Commence the warranty from the date of practical completion of the contract works.

Refer to the general section 1237 WARRANTIES for additional requirements.

~ years to ~ years are the sort of warranty periods that can be expected depending on material selection and project conditions.  Check with the manufacturer/supplier for their specific periods.

EXECUTION
Conditions
3.1
DELIVERY, STORAGE & HANDLING OF PRODUCTS

Refer to 1270 CONSTRUCTION for requirements relating to delivery, storage and handling of products.

Use this standard generic clause and if appropriate add additional special requirements.

3.2
ROUTINE MATTERS

Refer to 1250 TEMPORARY WORKS & SERVICES for protection requirements.
Refer to 1270 CONSTRUCTION for requirements relating to defective or damaged work, removal of protection and cleaning.

Use this standard generic clause and if appropriate add additional special requirements.

3.3
SUBSTRATE

Ensure substrate is plumb, level and in true alignment. Do not start erection if the substrate will not allow work of the required standard. Complete any remedial work found necessary before framing erection.

3.4
CO-ORDINATE SERVICES

Co-ordinate and co-operate with electrical and mechanical work to avoid conflict between suspension members and luminaires, diffusers, pipework and ducting. Confirm the provision of extra hangers and fixings.
Services and other attachments, attached to the ceiling support system to AS/NZS 2785, ensure that:

  • items over 7.5kg and items under 7.5kg but falling greater than 3m, require a tether to AS/NZS 2785, anchored to structure.
  • items attached to the ceiling grid must be under 10kg mass, items over 10kg cannot be attached to the grid and must be independently supported.
  • unless designed otherwise, the ceiling systems total load of services and other attachments must not exceed 3kg/m².
  • light fittings installed to AS/NZS 2785 and NZS 4219.
  • ceiling system clearances to structure and services etc. that are not attached to the ceiling system, to be to NZS 4219, and/or NZS 4541 for sprinklers.

Direct fixed systems may be able to vary loads slightly from the above depending on fixing centres and lining capacity, discuss with manufacturer.  Also with direct-fixed systems, subject to design, small lightweight light fittings may be able to be fixed to; the lining (for recessed) or lining back support (for pendants).

3.5
SITE CONDITIONS

To AS/NZS 2785: Appendix C2, Site Conditions and time of installation; Appendix C4, Inspection.

3.6
RESPONSIBILITY

Ensure that conditions are suitable for the ceiling installation.  Arrange for the programming of the work to suit required practice.

Installation - Ceiling Batten System
3.7
STANDARDS AND TOLERANCES

Refer to the general section 1270 CONSTRUCTION for general requirements.

Amend this clause to describe specific standards and tolerances to be achieved in carrying out this part of the work.  Although such tolerances are typically included in standards (NZS, AS/NZS etc) in certain circumstances it is worth restating these in this clause.

3.8
INSTALLATION - GENERAL

Install the Ceiling Batten System to AS/NZS 2785 minimum standards and Steelformers requirements. Adjust all clips by laser level until they are all level.

Allowance for support members:

  • Space required by the loads on the system and the type of ceiling lining.
  • For the installation of services and accessories, including ductwork, light fittings and diffusers.
  • Additional back support or suspension members for the fixing of services and accessories to prevent distortion, overloading or excessive vertical deflection.
  • For access for maintenance of services.

If required, allow for notch grid members at the junction with the perimeter trim to make sure the ceiling lining lies flat on the perimeter trim.

Do not attach the suspension system to the lip or flange of purlins.

Fix, erect and fit to finish rigid, plumb, square and true to line and face.  Where components required cutting on site, use metal snips, fine-toothed band or hack saws.

Install all movement joints and seismic restraints where required.

Services support to conform to the following:

  • If the service has not been designed to accept the ceiling load, do not fix direct-fix clips to services (e.g. ductwork).
  • If services obstruct the ceiling supports, provide bridging on each side of the services.
  • Do not support services terminals on ceiling lining, unless specified.

Refer to CO-ORDINATE SERVICES for anchoring services to the ceiling structure.

3.9
INSTALLATION - SPECIFIC

Install the Ceiling Batten System to Steelformers project Specific Design documentation. Refer to SELECTIONS.

3.10
ACCESSIBILITY

Provide access to the ceiling system and the in-ceiling and above-ceiling services so that maintenance and removal of any part can be carried out without damage to the ceiling system or panels.

As full access in all areas is clearly impractical, any special requirements for clear access will need to be defined; either by description here, or on the drawings.

3.11
PENETRATIONS

To AS/NZS 2785 and NZS 4219 generally, with sprinkler systems to NZS 4219 and/or NZS 4541.
Accommodate recessed light fittings, air conditioning outlets and other electrical and/or mechanical services that are fixed to or pass through the ceiling system.  Provide independent support and/or required clearances for these as necessary.

Modify clause to suit project.

3.12
BULKHEADS

Form bulkheads to manufacturer requirements.  Diagonally brace at regular intervals to provide lateral stability.

Modify clause to suit project requirements.

Consult with Manufacturer for design advice.

3.13
PROTECT EXISTING WORK

Protect adjacent existing work from damage during the installation.

Installation - direct-fix, flush ceiling
3.14
FLUSH CEILING - DIRECT FIX

Install plasterboard sheets for finishing to AS/NZS 2589.  Screw-fix sheets to ceiling batten system at the centres required by the ceiling lining manufacturer.  Stagger joints and fully support on the ceiling batten system.

Modify clause to suit project requirements.

Refer to CO-ORDINATE SERVICES for anchoring services to the ceiling structure.

Completion
3.15
COMPLETION MATTERS

Refer to 1270 CONSTRUCTION for completion requirements and if required commissioning requirements.

Use this standard generic clause and if appropriate add additional special requirements.

4
SELECTIONS

For further details on selections, refer to Steelformers webpage listed in Manufacturer Details.

Substitutions are not permitted to the following, unless stated otherwise.

If substitutions are permitted modify the statement above, ensure the NO SUBSTITUTIONS clause from GENERAL is treated the same.
