This section relates to the supply and installation of Woodland Lifestyle Ltd, PhoneStar acoustic underlay board for interior floor applications.

The PhoneStar acoustic underlay system is suitable for various flooring types and can be used in wet areas when a compatible waterproof membrane is applied over the underlay.  It is suitable for commercial, retail, institutional, residential, and multi-unit dwellings.

 

Woodland Lifestyle can provide IIC and STC results for specific assemblies, but compliance with NZBC G6/VM1 requires on-site testing.  Refer to Woodland Lifestyle technical information, as system performance depends on the entire floor assembly.

PHONESTAR ACOUSTIC BOARD

Acoustic boards made from quartz sand-filled corrugated cardboard, with a compressive strength of 5kN/m².  Refer to SELECTIONS.

Available in two thicknesses, 15mm and 25mm.

Can be used in wet areas with an approved waterproof membrane system applied to decoupling plate.
Suitable for installation with underfloor heating.

WOLF DECOUPLING FLEECE

1.4mm thick polyester fleece, 270 g/m², supplied in 1m wide rolls, 50m in length.

For application under PhoneStar boards onto substrate as part of acoustic system

4mm thick polyester fibre decoupling plate, available in sheets 1000mm x 600mm.

For application over PhoneStar boards as a membrane substrate and as a floor covering underlay.

PRE-INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

Check work previously carried out and confirm it is of the required standard for this part of the work.  Substrate to be level, smooth, clean, dry, and free of contaminants such as oil, grease, dust, or loose material.

ACCLIMATISE MATERIALS

Allow materials to acclimatise in the proposed installation area for 24 hours minimum prior to installation.

Substrate preparation

PRIME SUBSTRATE

Prime concrete substrate evenly using a roller or brush to apply two coats of Ardex PU 30 primer, allow to dry between coats.

INSTALL PERIMETER INSULATION STRIP

Apply self-adhesive edge insulation strips continuously to perimeter of floor surface, vertically oriented to extend above the final floor covering.  Trim after installation of finished flooring.

The perimeter isolation strip is to be concealed by the skirting board.

INSTALL DECOUPLING FLEECE

Cut the decoupling fleece to length and lay it over the substrate, starting from one corner of the room.  Butt edges together, aligning them against the perimeter insulation strip.

LOOSE LAY ACOUSTIC BOARD ONTO SUBSTRATE

Measure and cut boards to size with appropriate tools.  Tape cut edges, overlapping corners by 20mm.  Lay boards with the labelled side facing up in a stretcher bond pattern, starting in a corner of the room.

LOOSE LAY PHONESTAR ACOUSTIC BOARD TO DECOUPLING FLEECE

Measure and cut boards to size with appropriate tools.  Tape cut edges, overlapping corners by 20mm.  Lay boards perpendicular to the decoupling fleece with the labelled side facing up in a stretcher bond pattern, starting in a corner of the room with a minimum of 100mm offset between decoupling fleece joints.

ADHESIVE FIX PHONESTAR ACOUSTIC BOARD DIRECT TO SUBSTRATE

Install PhoneStar boards directly to the substrate, apply adhesive to the non-labelled board side, along perimeter and across the surface in 100mm intervals.  Press boards firmly into the adhesive, with a 4mm gap at floor to wall junctions.

Delete clause if not required.

LOOSE LAY SECOND LAYER PHONESTAR ACOUSTIC BOARD

Cut boards to size with appropriate tools.  Tape edges, overlapping corners by 20mm.  Lay boards with labelled side face up in stretcher bond pattern starting from corner of room with a minimum 100mm offset between joints.

ADHESIVE FIX SECOND LAYER PHONESTAR ACOUSTIC BOARD

Cut boards to size with appropriate tools.  Mask board edges with tape, overlapping corners by 20mm.  Arrange in stretcher bond pattern with a minimum 100mm offset between joints of previous PhoneStar board layer.  Apply adhesive to the non-labelled board surface with a roller at temperatures above 13°C.  Allow 20 minutes drying time, then place boards adhesive-side down and press firmly.  Boards are walkable immediately after installation.

INSTALL DECOUPLING PLATE

Apply adhesive using a notched trowel to workable area of PhoneStar board.  Install the decoupling plate onto adhesive and push down firmly.  Arrange in stretcher bond pattern with a minimum 100mm offset between joints of previous layer.  Allow 24 hours drying time.

PENETRATIONS

Penetrations in PhoneStar sound insulation board are to be fully sealed in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
