3
EXECUTION
Conditions
3.1
INSPECTION

Inspect the roof framing and supporting structure to ensure that it is complete and fully braced ready for soffit panels and free from any misalignments or protrusions that could damage the soffit panels.

3.2
STORAGE SOFFIT PANELS

Take delivery of products dry and undamaged on pallets, and keep on pallet.  Protect edges and corners from damage, cover to keep dry until fixed.

3.3
HANDLING

Avoid distortion and contact with potentially damaging surfaces.  Do not drag panels across each other, or across other materials.  Protect edges, corner and surface finish from damage.  Reject all product with damaged faces or edges.

3.4
SUBSTRATE

Do not commence work until the substrate is of the standard required for the specified finish; level and in true alignment.  Moisture content of timber framing must not exceed the requirements specified by NZS 3602 to minimise shrinkage and movement after soffits are fixed.

3.5
PENETRATIONS

Form small holes to accommodate penetrations through the soffit to Ribon Ltd requirements.

Expand on this clause to suit project requirements.

Install Ribon panels
3.6
PRE -INSPECTION

Before proceeding with installation Inspect framing, check that wall underlay is in place and report to contract administrator any issues that require attention.

3.7
INSTALLATION - GENERAL

Install soffit to NZBC E2/AS1 5.3 Soffits Figure 8A and Ribon Continuous Interlocking Soffits Installation Manual and Ribon Technical Details.

3.8
INSTALL RIBON WALL BRACKET

Determine the correct drop height for the wall bracket in accordance with the Drop Height Tables scheduled in Ribon Continuous Interlocking Soffits Manual.

Use a string line or chalk line to mark the drop height and screw fix the wall bracket to the wall framing at each stud.  Wall brackets manufactured in 6m lengths.  In sloping soffit or gable end situations a wall bracket is not required (drop height tables are provided).

Drop heights vary depending on the soffit width, roof pitch and the roofing type:

  • Table 1: longrun or metal tile roofs
  • Table 2: concrete tile roofs
  • Table 3: asphalt tile roofs.
3.9
INSTALL RIBON SOFFIT BRACKETS

Insert the pre-assembled soffit bracket into the wall bracket and screw fix it to the rafter once it is leveled.  Check fascia pivot bracket has been set plumb before tightening the screws.  Screw fix the soffit bracket to the wall bracket through the folded tab on the soffit bracket.

In sloping soffit or gable end situations refer to the drop heights provided.  Screw fix the soffit bracket to the rafter or outrigger at every screw hole to add maximum strength.  Screw the soffit bracket to the rafter, and fix fascia pivot bracket once it is set plumb.

Soffit brackets manufactured in 4 different lengths, 196mm, 345mm, 495mm and 645mm.

3.10
INSTALL FASCIA PANEL / GUTTER

Install fascia panel / gutter system to manufacturer's details and requirements as shown on the drawings.

Installer of fascia, soffit and gutter to be familiar and experienced with all applications.

Note: Supply and installation of proprietary fascia / gutter (spouting) system is by others and is not part of the Ribon Continuous Interlocking Soffit System.

Ribon Continuous Interlocking Soffit System uses generic fascia/gutter products.

3.11
INSTALL RIBON SOFFIT PANEL

Cut soffit panel to suit using hand shears or nibblers, then insert panel into the groove at the back of the fascia panel, and in succession, is clipped into the soffit brackets.  Check that the panel has been aligned to its resting position before it is clipped in.  Ensure that the panel is well supported while being lifted into place.  Once panel is clipped into place remove the strippable film and crimp the locking tabs on to the back of the soffit panel.  For the first panel there is also a locking tab at the fascia panel and soffit panel intersection which needs to be folded down after the panel has been clipped in.

3.12
INSTALL RIBON EXTENSION BRACKET

Use a Ribon Extension Bracket for soffits greater than 645mm wide.

For flat soffits:

  • Install wall bracket hangers at 300mm centres at the drop height from the support framing.
  • Cut extension bracket to length, nose bracket into the back of the panel rib to gain the correct distance for the panel engagement.
  • Fix extension bracket to the brackets with self-tapping screws.

For sloping soffits:

  • Cut extension bracket to length, nose bracket into the back of the panel rib of the previous panel and screw fix the bracket into the side of the rafter at soffit pitch at 300mm centres.

Drop heights vary depending on the soffit width, roof pitch and the roofing type:

  • Table 1: longrun or metal tile roofs
  • Table 2: concrete tile roofs
  • Table 3: asphalt tile roofs.
3.13
INSTALL RIBON PANEL JOINERS

Provide an 18mm gap at mitred external and internal panel intersections, and a 18mm gap at joints in panels greater than 8m long.  Ensure the joiners are inserted before the roof goes on to allow easy access to fit the top joiner.  Firstly, place a 14mm hard foam strip above the panel and in between the panel ribs to ensure that the panel will seat exactly on to the joiner once screwed together.

Cut both joiners to length, place the top joiner above the panels, then place the lower joiner under the panels and using pre-drilled holes, screw the two together so they lightly clamp on to the panels.

Coating
3.14
PRE- PAINTED COATING

Refer to painting section(s) for protective coating system.

Completion
3.15
COMPLETE

Ensure the work is complete with all components, accessories, finishing and trim properly installed so that the soffit cladding system is completely weathertight.

REPLACE

Replace all damaged or marked elements.

3.17
LEAVE

Leave work to the standard required for following procedures.

3.18
REMOVE

Remove debris, unused materials and elements from the site.
