In most cases individual products are not used in isolation, but form part of a building process.  Also a particular manufacturer's and/or supplier's requirements for handling, storage, preparation, installation, finishing and protection of their product can vary from what might be considered the norm.  Access to technical information can help overcome this potential problem.

QUALIFICATIONS

Installers to be experienced, competent door technicians familiar with the installation of the AceDoors equipment and approved by the manufacturer.  If requested, provide evidence of qualification / experience prior to commencing work.

This clause includes generic text which should be expanded only if there are specific qualification requirements.

ACCEPTABLE PRODUCT/MATERIAL SUPPLIERS

Where a product or material supplier is named in SELECTIONS, the product/material must be provided by the named supplier.  Where more than one named supplier, any one of the named suppliers will be acceptable.

This clause is used to nominate a supplier or suppliers to supply materials.  It is not intended for nominating subcontractors which must be done in the specific conditions of contract applying to the work.  Check with BCA for acceptability of multiple selection options.

NO SUBSTITUTIONS

Substitutions are not permitted to any of the AceDoors specified systems, components or associated products listed in this section.

SHOP DRAWINGS

Refer to the general section 1235 SHOP DRAWINGS for the requirements for submission, review and the provision of shop drawings.

 

Provide shop drawings to show the general arrangement including, but not limited to:

  • Opening dimensions
  • Handing of gearing
  • Track or guide type
  • Fixing
  • Operating system
  • Fire Resistance (integrity and insulation) and activation devices (if required)

 

If requested provide the following additional information:

  • maintenance schedules, testing & certification requirements of fire rated doors, curtains & associated equipment

Use this clause to list requirements of information that is required but which does not warrant a separate specialist operation and maintenance manual.  Amend the clause if hard copy documents are required.

 

Provide this information prior to Practical Completion.

INFORMATION REQUIRED FOR CODE COMPLIANCE

Performance - General

RESPONSIBILITY FOR PERFORMANCE

Accept responsibility for the structural and limited weathertight performance of the completed door installation.

Use this standard generic clause and add specific requirements where necessary.  There are no standards relating to weathertightness for industrial and commercial doors.  Do not expect them to be fully weathertight or watertight.

Performance - Wind (design by contractor)

The next two mutually exclusive clauses, are setting a standard of performance for design by the contractor.  Specifiers should therefore consider adding some means of confirming (say by testing or certification) that the performance criteria will be or have been met.  Delete the clause which does not apply.

Ensure the relevant Wind Zone information is supplied in 1220 PROJECT section.

DESIGN PARAMETERS - NON SPECIFIC DESIGN

Design the installation to the wind zone parameters of NZS 3604, 'Timber framed buildings', table 5.4.

Specify relevant wind speed or pressure.

Group Number to NZBC C/AS2, Table 4.3 Fire - Acceptable Solutions.  Refer to SELECTIONS.

NOTE:  For most internal applications a surface fire performance Group Number will be required to NZBC C/AS2, table 4.3.  If the Group number is established from NZBC C/AS2 Appendix C, Table C1.2, add to clause.

 

Delete clause if not required.  A Group number may not be required in situations such as, the surface area is less than 5m² (NZBC C/AS2, 4.17.6.a), or the design is to NZBC C/AS1 risk group SH (houses, etc.).

Check with the door manufacturer that the proposed construction of the wall is compatible with and matches the requirements of the selected door assembly before proceeding with construction of the door and wall.

VARIATION FROM STANDARD - FIRE

Where the proposed door or installation does not comply with the standard or where other conditions apply, obtain an assessment from a registered testing laboratory or a Registered Fire Engineer to satisfy the requirements of NZBC C/AS1or NZBC C/AS2 'Protection from fire'.

Note: Conditions which may apply prior to manufacture include allowance for sufficient assessment time, addition of a PC Sum for testing procedure, etc, - matters which should be addressed in the contract documents.

In-situ touch-up of coating is only permitted after receiving written direction from the Contract Administrator.  Replace damaged components or material not able to be restored to as-new condition.

The Q&A process should remove any doors which are not relevant to the project.  If necessary, delete door types not required.

DURASHUTTER™ STEEL ROLLER SHUTTER

AceDoors DuraShutter™ Steel Roller Shutter, constructed from individually roll formed 0.75mm thick replaceable interlocking galvanised steel slats.  Operation by motorisation or manual hand chain, custom made to fit size of opening and structure of building up to 8m wide x 7m high.  Galvanized or Duralloy powder coat finishes and vented slats available.  Meets or exceeds wind load requirements of AS/NZS 4505 'Garage doors and other large access doors' and meets the updated requirements of AS/NZS 1170.2, amendment 4.

Suitable for factories, warehouses, industrial buildings, carparks, shop fronts, etc.,.requiring secure and reliable closing capabilities.  Replaceable slats are more economic following, for example, vehicle impact.

AceDoors SpiraDoor™ aluminium insulated slat door constructed from interlocking slats of 200mm x 47mm sections consisting of two materials; a hollow extruded aluminium section filled with an insulating core of expanded polyurethane foam.  Motorised operation.  Refer to SELECTIONS.

Suitable where security and high speed operation is necessary, instead of roller shutter/fabric high speed door combinations.

Kent Automatic Fire Curtains consist of a fire resistant fibreglass fabric wound round a roller encased in a head box, typically installed above the ceiling, remaining out of sight until activated.  When activated, the curtain rolls down to close off the opening to minimise fire spread, meeting the requirements of NZBC C/AS1 or NZBC C/AS2 'Protection from fire'.  Refer to SELECTIONS for type and details.

Suitable for all building types where fire control is required.

KENT AUTOMATIC SMOKE CURTAIN

Kent Automatic Smoke Curtains consist of a fire resistant fibreglass fabric wound round a roller encased in a head box, typically installed above the ceiling, remaining out of sight until activated.  When activated, the curtain descends to channel smoke to extraction points within the building, meeting the requirements of NZBC C/AS1 or NZBC C/AS2 'Protection from fire'.  Refer to SELECTIONS for type and details.

Suitable for all building types where smoke control is required.

MOTORISING

Purpose built electric motor assembly, complete with alternative method of operation required in the event of power failure.  Depending on application - Low Cycle Motors (LCM) for smaller commercial units; internal barrel where there is a risk of tampering with the motor, or 3-phase motors for heavier duty industrial doors.

Refer to SELECTIONS.

Delete clause if spring balance or handchain operated.  Modify clause to suit model selected.

Note; AS/NZS 4024 requires machine guarding below 2.5m above floor level.  Specify if this is to be provided by AceDoors or by other means, e.g. concealment

DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING

Refer to the general section 1270 CONSTRUCTION section for requirements relating to delivery, storage and handling of products.  Take delivery of materials and goods, store on site and protect from damage.  Move/handle goods in accordance with manufacturer's requirements.  Reject and replace goods that are damaged or will not provide the required finish.

The general section 1270 CONSTRUCTION describes how deliveries are to be managed and the goods stored.
