FORTE TIMBER PLANK LININGS
1
GENERAL

If you have pre-customised this work section using the "questions and answers" provided as part of the downloading process, it may be necessary to amend some clauses to suit the final project-specific version.

The section must still be checked and customised to suit the project being specified, by removing any other irrelevant details and adding project-specific details and selections.

This section relates to the supply and fixing of Forte timber planks and panelling for walls and ceilings.
It includes;

Modify or extend the above description to suit the project being specified.  This section covers finished surface planks.  Some are supplied pre-coated or undercoated, others with prepared surfaces ready for the application of a final decorative coating or applied finishing material.

FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) or PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) certification is available upon request for some products.  Contact Forte for further information.

FIRE NOTE; For a house etc. to NZBC C/AS1 risk group SH, or in other risk groups if the surface area is less than 5m2 (NZBC C/AS2, 4.17.6.a), a surface fire performance Group Number may not be required.  However, for most other internal applications, a Group Number to NZBC C/AS2, Table 4.3, will be required for lining and finish, this will need to be supplied by the manufacturer of the lining or finish.  Alternatively, for some materials and finishes, a generic Group Number may be able to be used from NZBC C/AS2 Table C1.2.  Add Group Number to SELECTIONS if required, either to this section or the particular finishes section.

For linings used as substrates for waterproofing membranes using NZBC E3/AS2, only plywood and fibre cement can be used, refer SELECTIONS.

It is important to ensure that all personnel on site have access to accurate, up to date technical information on the many products, materials and equipment used on a project.  In most cases individual products are not used in isolation, but form part of a building process.  Also a particular manufacturer's and/or supplier's requirements for handling, storage, preparation, installation, finishing and protection of their product can vary from what might be considered the norm.  Access to technical information can help overcome this potential problem.

Application
3.5
INSTALL FORTE WALL PLANKS

Install Forte Timber Plank in accordance with the following guides;

  • Forte Wall Panelling and Installation Guide for Professionals - Engineered Plank

INSTALLING FORTE WALL PLANKS TO TIMBER FRAMING

Install as follows;
Installing Horizontally - fix to studs at 600mm centres.
Installing Vertically - fix to nogs/dwangs at 600mm centres.
Evenly apply a squiggle of adhesive to the surface of the framing in the immediate area of the installation.  Fasten planks to framing using a brad nailer by secret nailing on an angle through the tongue.

INSTALLING FORTE WALL PLANKS TO PLASTERBOARD

Install as follows when fixing Forte Planks to a plasterboard finished timber framed wall;
Installing Horizontally - fix to studs at 600mm centres.
Installing Vertically - fix to nogs/dwangs at 600mm centres.
Use a stud finder to locate the framing and ensure framing is no greater than 600mm apart.  Mark out location of framing.
If plasterboard has been painted sand with 60 grit paper to ensure good adhesion.
Evenly apply diagonal beads of adhesive 50mm apart to the back of each plank.  Fasten planks through the plasterboard to framing using a brad nailer by secret nailing on an angle through the tongue.
Note: If framing is greater than 600mm apart line the area with minimum 9mm plywood and fix to ply.

Lamellas are suitable to be installed on plywood and plasterboard.  Must be glued and mechanically fixed.
