MARLEY CONNECTO™ SURFACE DRAINAGE
1
GENERAL

If you have pre-customised this work section using the "questions and answers" provided as part of the downloading process, it may be necessary to amend some clauses to suit the final project-specific version.

The section must still be checked and customised to suit the project being specified, by removing any other irrelevant details and adding project-specific details and selections.

This section relates to Marley CONNECTO™ surface drainage.

It comprises of below ground, gravity flow stormwater surface channel pipework complete with maintenance access and fittings and connected to network utility operators system.

It includes;

Modify / expand this clause to suit requirements of this specification section.

This section is based on design to NZBC E1/AS1 which is limited to a catchment area of 2,500m² maximum.  Up to 100ha NZBC E1/VM1 can be used.  Specific design (Alternative Solution), is necessary beyond this, but can also be used at any time.  Modify this section to suit if not using NZBC E1/AS1.

The provisions of on-site stormwater disposal and/or storage systems are strictly controlled by local and regional authorities. The same degree of control applies to discharges into natural watercourses, lakes and the sea. Where such installations are likely to occur, first liaise with the authority concerned before preparing project-specific clauses to cover the work.

Where drains extend over public places or where drainage lines are to be taken over as 'public drains' by the territorial authority/NUO, first establish the authority's/NUO's requirements before preparing project-specific clauses.

It is important to ensure that all personnel on site have access to accurate, up to date technical information on the many products, materials and equipment used on a project. In most cases individual products are not used in isolation, but form part of a building process. Also a particular manufacturer's and/or supplier's requirements for handling, storage, preparation, installation, finishing and protection of their product can vary from what might be considered the norm. Access to technical information can help overcome this potential problem.

Warranties
1.4
WARRANTY - INSTALLER/APPLICATOR

Provide an installer/applicator warranty:

2 years:

For installation

  • When installed to Marley's published installation instructions at time of installation.
  • Provide this warranty on the installer/applicator standard form.
  • Workmanship warranty to be issued separately by the installer
  • Commence the warranty from the date of practical completion of the contract works.

Refer to the general section 1237 WARRANTIES for additional requirements.

Requirements
1.5
QUALIFICATIONS

Drainlayers to be experienced, competent and familiar with the materials and techniques specified.  Carry out all work under the direct supervision of a certifying drainlayer under the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Act 2006.

1.6
SITE CONFIRMATION

Meet with the territorial authority drainage inspector to confirm the drainage layout in relation to site conditions.  Confirm changes resulting and seek written site instruction before carrying out any work.

1.7
SITE CONDITIONS

Before starting work check on site the drainage layout, dimensions, levels and invert levels and ensure that line, level, falls and cover are correct.

1.8
NO SUBSTITUTIONS

Substitutions are not permitted to any of the specified Marley systems, components and associated products listed in this section.

Performance
1.9
TECHNICAL APPLICATION

Refer to Marley New Zealand Limited for technical support for trench hydraulics, grate performance hydraulics, run layout and scheduling, ponding analysis and information on the chemical resistance of the trench and grate materials.

Engineering judgement as to the applicability of the results provided by Marley New Zealand Limited, and perform reasonable engineering checks on the data and results from all analyses undertaken.  Check and confirm that the recommendation is acceptable and suitable for use.  Specific engineering advice may be required.

1.10
COMPLIANCE WITH NZ BUILDING CODE

All work to comply with NZBC E1/AS1: Surface water, 3.0 Drainage system materials and construction.

EXECUTION
Conditions
3.1
GROUND CONDITIONS

Specific ground conditions or contaminated ground may require an increase in the concrete surround dimensions or the addition of reinforcement.

Specific site conditions may require an increase in these dimensions or reinforcement.  Ensure the concrete encasement is designed for the application.  Engineering advice may be required.

3.2
TEMPORARY INSTALLATION

Marley CONNECTO™ surface drainage channels cannot be trafficked until fully installed. During site work and after the trench run is laid, route site traffic away from the trench.  If temporary crossings are required lay base course of minimum 1 metre wide either side of the trench for protection.

Installation
3.3
GENERAL

All work to AS/NZS 3500.3: Plumbing and drainage - Stormwater drainage and Marley CONNECTO™ Installation Guide.

3.4
EXCAVATION

Excavate trench to accommodate drain system.  Excavations must be made about the centre line of proposed drainage run and pit. Trench must be big enough to accommodate the channel/pit width and depth dimensions and the concrete surround dimensions. Excavate the trench base to roughly follow fall of trench run.  Ensure loose material is removed from trench and base is compacted before pouring concrete.  Maintain free of water and free of all falling material.

3.5
SETTING OUT

Run string line, or laser at finished surface level along the full length of the proposed trench run to ensure the top of the trench drainage run is installed on the correct grade.

3.6
POSITIONING OF CHANNELS

To excavated trench, provide concrete support for the channels either by patty supports or the hanging method.  Refer to site installation manual.  Position and level the channels to fall.  Install trench channel drains and pits complete with grated covers, to the manufacturer's requirements.

Check the manufacturer's technical data and modify this clause to suit.

3.7
BEDDING SURROUND AND FILLING MATERIALS

Marley CONNECTO™ grated trench drain systems must be encased in a concrete surround.  A minimum concrete compressive strength of 25 MPa to NZS 3104 is recommended for the concrete surround.  Refer to the standard installation drawings for minimum dimensional requirements for the concrete surround.

Specific site conditions may require an increase in these dimensions or reinforcement. Ensure the concrete encasement is designed for the application. Engineering advice may be required.

3.8
CONCRETE POUR

Install Marley CONNECTO™ surface drainage system complete with grate or plywood sections to brace the channel.  Pour concrete evenly either side of trench ensuring concrete is not poured into the drain by wrapping grates in plastic or bracing with plywood.  If more than one pour is cast for the concrete surround, they must be adequately bonded to each other.  This is for structural continuity.

3.9
COMPLETE TRENCH INSTALLATION

Remove all grates and remove plastic covering or masking tape.  Remove debris from the trench drain and clear outlet pipes.  Install rubbish baskets in pits if required.  Flush trench run to check for pipe blockages.  Replace grates and secure.

3.10
JOINT SEALING

Where channels are installed in suspended slabs, seal all channel joints and pipe connection joints with a proprietary sealant.  Sealant must be resistant to the same chemicals and be flexible to allow for movement.

Installation - connection
3.11
CONNECT TO SURFACE WATER DRAIN

Connect grated trench drainage system to stormwater drain to the requirements and satisfaction of the network utility operator.

3.12
CLEAN

Clean and flush out the whole installation and remove all silt and debris before handing over.

Completion
3.13
REPLACE

Replace damaged or marked elements.

3.14
LEAVE

Leave the whole of this work discharging completely and freely into the stormwater system and free of all debris.  Leave work to the standard required by following procedures.

3.15
REMOVE

Remove debris, unused materials and elements from the site.
