This section relates to the supply of CSP Pacific Multi-plate™ culvert systems.

Note: Multi-plate™ structures are not stocked items.  A lead time for manufacture can be provided following the design and consultation process.

This section is written on the basis of a Culvert being classified as an ancillary building not for human habitation as defined under the Building Act. Schedule 1, A1,8. Ancillary.

It is important to ensure that all personnel on site have access to accurate, up to date technical information on the many products, materials and equipment used on a project.  In most cases individual products are not used in isolation, but form part of a building process.  Also a particular manufacturer and/or supplier requirements for handling, storage, preparation, installation, finishing and protection of their product can vary from what might be considered the norm.  Access to technical information can help overcome this potential problem.

ACCEPTABLE PRODUCT/MATERIAL SUPPLIERS

Where a product or material supplier is named in SELECTIONS, the product/material must be provided by the named supplier.  Where more than one named supplier, any one of the named suppliers will be acceptable.

This clause is used to nominate a supplier or suppliers to supply materials.  It is not intended for nominating subcontractors which must be done in the specific conditions of contract applying to the work.  Check with BCA for acceptability of multiple selection options.

Substitutions are not permitted to any of the specified systems, components and associated products listed in this section.

SHOP DRAWINGS

Refer to the general section 1235 SHOP DRAWINGS for the requirements for submission and review and the provision of final shop drawings.

INFORMATION REQUIRED FOR CODE COMPLIANCE

Provide the following compliance documentation: -

  • Applicators approval certificate from the manufacturer / importer / distributor
  • Manufacturer / supplier warranty
  • Installer / applicator warranty
  • Producer Statement - Construction from the applicator / installer
  • Producer Statement - Construction Review from an acceptable suitably qualified person
  • Other information required by the BCA in the Building Consent Approval documents.

List the Producer Statements - Construction (PS3) required from installers that are required as a condition of carrying out this work.
List also Producer Statements - Construction Review (PS4) required from consultants to be engaged by the Contractor.
Producer Statement - Design (PS1), may be required where certain design work is undertaken by the Contractor or manufacturer / importer / distributor.

INSPECTIONS

CSP Pacific are able to provide regular site inspections and support.

Use this clause for parts of the work where;

Special arrangements are required for notification for inspections.
These inspections may include 'Hold Points' or 'Notification Points'.  Refer to 1232 INTERPRETATION & DEFINITIONS for complete definitions.

Hold Point:

Work may not proceed until the work in question has been inspected.

Notification Point:

notify Contract Administrator, work may be observed or not, work may proceed.

or

the manufacturer/supplier is required to carry out inspections outside their normal activities and provide reports or other documents in support of the work carried out.

the Contractor is required to carry out or engage consultants to carry out inspections of parts of the work.  It will typically be expected that the person carrying out the inspections will be required to provide producer statements in support of the work carried out.

STEEL MULTI-PLATE™ CULVERTS

Galvanized steel culvert to AS/NZS 2041.1, AS/NZS 2041.2 and AS/NZS 2041.
Multiplate™ can be designed for a service life of 25 - 100yrs depending on Project Requirements, in normal soil conditions.
Span up to 8.00m.  Corrugation profile 200mm pitch x 55mm depth.
The arch profile is available as a bottomless design on concrete footing.  Open Bottom Structures have an inherent additional durability and better environmental characteristics.
Available as full profiles; pipe, underpass, pipe arch.

Suitable for:
Culverts, bridges, storm drains, pedestrian and stock underpasses.

2.2
ALUMINIUM MULTI-PLATE™ CULVERTS

Marine grade 5052-H34 alloy aluminium culvert to AS/NZS 2041.1, AS/NZS 2041.2 and AS/NZS 2041.6 with minimum 75 years durability in mild corrosion environments and up to 100yrs in salt water environments.  Span up to 16m.  Corrugation profile 230mm pitch x 64mm depth.
The arch profile is available as a bottomless design on concrete footing.  Open Bottom Structures have an inherent additional durability and better environmental characteristics.
Available as full profiles; pipe, underpass, pipe arch.

Suitable for:
Culverts, bridges, storm drains, pedestrian and stock underpasses.

2.3
MULTI-PLATE™ 100+ CULVERTS

Galvanized steel culvert to AS/NZS 2041.1, AS/NZS 2041.2 and AS/NZS 2041.
Multiplate™ can be designed for a service life of 100+ yrs depending on Project Requirements, in normal soil conditions,
Span up to 8.00m.  Corrugation profile 200mm pitch x 55mm depth.
The arch profile is available as a bottomless design on concrete footing.  Open Bottom Structures have an inherent additional durability and better environmental characteristics.

Available as full profiles; pipe, underpass, pipe arch.
Note:  for service life of 100+ years additional design work will be required.

2.4
SUPER-COR™ CULVERTS

Galvanized steel structural plate with up to 125 years durability in low corrosion conditions.  Spans exceeding 25.00m.  Corrugation profile 381mm pitch x 140mm depth.
The following profiles are available as bottomless designs on concrete footings; Box Culverts, Standard, Low, Medium, or High Profile Arches.  Also available full Rounds and Ellipses.

Suitable for:
Culverts, bridges, railway and vehicle underpasses, storm drains, underground storage.

ULTRA-COR™ CULVERTS

Galvanized steel structural plate with up to 125 years durability in low corrosion conditions.  Spans up to 40m.  Corrugation profile 500mm pitch x 237mm depth.
The following profiles are available as bottomless designs on concrete footings; Box Culverts, Standard, Low, Medium, or High Profile Arches.  Also available full Rounds and Ellipses.

Suitable for:
Culverts, bridges, railway and vehicle underpasses, storm drains, underground storage.

BOLTS AND NUTS

Bolts and nuts to be a minimum of M19.
M20 high galvanized bolts and nuts are supplied with Steel Structures.
M19 Galvanized Bolts and Nuts may be supplied with an Aluminium structure in a non corrosive or mildly corrosive conditions.
M19 Aluminium Bolts and Nuts will be supplied with an Aluminium Structure in salty or aggressive conditions.
Super-Cor™ structures supplied with M19 and M22 Bolts and Nuts.
Ultra-Cor™ structures  supplied with M22 and M24 Bolts and Nuts.

END TREATMENT

Standard end finishes are square ends, step bevels, skews, full bevels and skew bevels.  Where the skew angle exceeds 20° end plates should be reinforced with a concrete ring beam.  Refer to AS/NZS 2041.1: Part 1 Design Methods.

Corrugated Steel Multiplate structures can be manufactured with a variety of end treatments to suit site conditions.

RING BEAM

Ring beams to stiffen the ends of the structure.  Use is optional depending on the skew of the structure and the end treatment used.  To determine when to use a ring beam refer of AS/NZS 2041: Part 1 section 8.

INVERT COATING

Depending on the site conditions, to achieve the service life specified by Project Engineer Steel Multiplate may require additional abrasion protection to invert.  Invert coating will generally be applied before culvert delivery to the site.

Install Culvert system in accordance with the Engineers and CSP Pacifics installation instructions and installation drawings.
