MAJOR CHANGES TO THE CARPENTRY BASED SECTIONS IN MASTERSPEC BASIC AND INTERIORS
In last months Notes we discussed the release of new and amended sections to support the rationalisation of the Masterspec Basic section 3820 CARPENTRY and the sections based on it (3831 INTERIOR TIMBERWORK in Masterspec Interiors and 3820L LASERFRAME® CARPENTRY in Masterspec Basic). This month we are releasing the new versions of 3820 CARPENTRY, 3831 INTERIOR TIMBERWORK and 3820L LASERFRAME® CARPENTRY. These sections have always covered timber framing plus a range of "other items" like floors (T&G, particleboard, plywood, fibre cement), decking boards, plywood (bracing, sarking, membrane underlay), flooring underlays and fireplaces. However, over time some these "other items" have been covered by their own more detailed separate generic and/or branded sections. This can lead to an "other items" subject being partly in Carpentry and partly somewhere else in the specification, or worse creating conflicting information in two places. Also, the separate specialised sections, the majority of which already existed, cover the subject with more depth, more options and provide a more robust specification.
The new 3820 CARPENTRY and 3831 INTERIOR TIMBERWORK sections keep the same number and name but now relate to the supply and erection of light timber framing, as a framed structure or partitioning, as well as prefabricated timber and engineered wood options. The use of Radiata Pine and Douglas fir has been simplified and is directly sorted by the Q&A.
3820L LASERFRAME® CARPENTRY has been similarly upgraded in line with the manufacturer’s product range.
The "other items" were relocated to specialist new or amended sections, for details of these refer to last months article at:
