Masterspec Building Information Modelling Portal
Masterspec is an industry-owned organisation with the objective of support the New Zealand construction industry in lifting quality and productivity of the built environment through the provision of suitable construction information systems and resources.
Masterspec believes that digital information, including 3-D Modelling and Building Information Modelling, will provide improved methods of design, construction and communication for the industry. Further, Masterspec supports open global systems as this will result in improved efficiency and quality.
Masterspec’s primary focus is on the “i” (Information) in BIM and how it is linked to digital models. Masterspec’s areas of interest include how specification information can be best integrated with BIM and the development of BIM guidelines and standards beneficial to the construction industry.
BIM has the potential to create a step change in NZ construction productivity and Masterspec is working with the industry to help realise the full potential of BIM in NZ.
These pages are to keep you in touch with the work Masterspec is doing in the BIM space and to provide you with useful resources to help you on your BIM journey; whether you are just starting out or well on the way.
What is BIM?
Building Information Modelling:
- Utilises 3D models of buildings to better understand the construction process.
- Uses objects to represent real building components like walls, floors, doors, windows, roofs.
- Objects have intelligence, not just lines on pages like drawings. A wall knows that it is a wall and what it is made of.
- BIM can be used for 3D visualisation, clash detection, specification, accurate costing, project planning, facilities management, and much more
Open BIM Object standard
With the view to improving BIM collaboration and coordination internationally, Masterspec have worked with NATSPEC (Australia) to develop an open BIM Object standard to assist object developers in creating consistent content. . Read more
MasterKey – specification driven keynoting
MasterKey dynamically connects your Revit® 2015 or ArchiCAD® 18 project with your Masterspec specification document by drawing correctly numbered keynotes directly from the Masterspec system into your project ready for use. Read more
Masterspec are members of buildingSmart Australasia, whose vision is to have an Australasian building and construction industry that collaboratively shares and maintains information about facilities and infrastructure in a manner that optimises the quality and economy of regulatory approval, design, construction and operation of the built environment.
