MasterKey for ArchiCAD - Enable MasterKey
To use the Keynotes tool in ArchiCAD you must have a free Masterspec NextGen2 personal user account and be connected to a practice with a paid Masterspec subscription. If you don’t have a personal account go here to sign up. It’s free and provides access to Masterspec Link, Masterspec NextGen2 and the miproducts National Product Database.
Please note, if you are a new NextGen2 user you must have associated your account with your practice subscription. Only then can the NextGen2 practice administrator assign you privileges as a MasterKey user. To find out how watch this short video.
IMPORTANT - Before first logging in, make sure your practice Nextgen2 Master Administrator has added your details as a MasterKey user to the practice.
To add your name, the Master Administrator logs in to their Masterspec NextGen2 account, then selects the My Details tab.
The details of the user must appear in the Manage Staff list. If not they must be added by the Master Administrator.
To add the name to the MasterKey list, select the MasterKey tab in the Assign Added Privileges window.
From the drop-down list select the name to be given access to MasterKey.
Select OK, you will see the name has been added to the list.
ONLY WHEN THESE STEPS ARE COMPLETED SHOULD THE USER ATTEMPT TO LOG IN TO MASTERKEY
Once registered and linked to a Masterspec NextGen2 subscription you need to install MasterKey on your computer workstation. Everyone who has ArchiCAD and Keynotes has the Cadimage installer on their computer.
In Windows you will find it at C:\Program Files (x86)\Cadimage Installer
In Mac it is under Applications>Cadimage Installer
With your ArchiCAD closed launch the Cadimage installer and go to the ‘New & Update Tools’ dropdown.
Masterspec Masterkey will appear in the list. Select it and click ‘Download and Install'.
Once MasterKey is installed in Cadimage, open your ArchiCAD 18 programme. The first task is to find and open the Masterspec MasterKey palette and link it to the correct Masterspec specification database.
You do not have to have fully completed your Masterspec specification before using MasterKey, however you must have added the appropriate sections for MasterKey to be able to generate keynotes.
ENABLING MASTERKEY IN ARCHICAD 18
In ArchiCAD, select Window>Palettes>Masterspec MasterKey.
In the pop-up window click Login and enter your personal Masterspec login details. Select OK.
This will present you with the full Masterspec MasterKey Palette.
The palette offers links to extensive reference material including
- The Standards New Zealand Library
- The New Zealand Building Code

- The Masterspec specification projects current or archived for the practice
all while remaining within your ArchiCAD 18 project.
