Masterspec actively supports the building industry through a comprehensive programme of training that underpins ongoing professional development and contributes to accreditation points across a range of industry certification schemes.
Equally important is our commitment to educating the next generation of designers and specifiers. Through our national tertiary education programme, Masterspec works closely with universities and other tertiary providers to embed a strong understanding of specification into architectural education.
This month, our latest university sessions were delivered at Unitec in Auckland. Across two workshops, we worked directly with architectural students to explore why specification is critical to good design and successful project delivery, and how it is applied in practice within the New Zealand regulatory and construction context.
The sessions combined technical foundations with real‑world examples and hands‑on discussion, helping students understand specification as an essential design skill — not just a documentation task. We also introduced embodied carbon considerations, including how to read and interpret New Zealand‑specific carbon data using the NECO₂ database.
Partnering with Universities and Practices
Masterspec is keen to expand this industry‑based training to more universities and tertiary providers nationwide. We welcome conversations with heads of architecture schools and programme leaders who are interested in scheduling specification training sessions tailored to their students and curriculum.
At the same time, we continue to support architectural practices with in‑office training designed to keep teams up to date with specification best practice, tools and emerging requirements such as embodied carbon.
Book a Training Session
- University architecture departments can book a meeting with the Masterspec team to discuss integrating specification training into their programmes.
- Architectural and design practices can arrange tailored in‑house training sessions for their teams.
To start the conversation, book a meeting with our team so we could tailor a training session that suits your university or practice needs.
