MASTERSPEC BEGINS A NEW INDUSTRY PARTNERSHIP WITH STEEL CONSTRUCTION NEW ZEALAND (SCNZ)

08 Dec 2020

Masterspec and SCNZ are delighted to announce a new industry partnership to support structural steel design, fabrication and erection in the New Zealand construction industry. The two organisations reached a Memorandum of Understanding to foster technical excellence, promote best practice methods and develop tools for the adoption of requirements under the New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 5131 Structural Steelwork – Fabrication and Erection

Masterspec and SCNZ will bring together their expertise on content and platform development to provide a Masterspec library grounded on the principles of SCNZ 112:2018 New Zealand Structural Steelwork Specification in Compliance with AS/NZS 5131. This specification is currently a generic specification for structural steel framing of buildings based on the requirements outlined in the New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 5131 ‘Structural Steelwork – Fabrication and Erection'.

The aim of this library will be to enable structural steel designers and specifiers to create bespoke, high quality specifications using a Cloud-based library system that combines the content of the SCNZ specification and the advanced capabilities of the Masterspec specification toolset, regular content update, maintenance and industry support.

This partnership solidifies both organisations’ commitment to develop and promote best practice methods and is aimed at providing the structural engineering design disciplines with resources to produce high quality specifications that will lead to sustainable, cost-saving and low-risk construction projects.

The new specification library will be made available to all Masterspec and SCNZ members at no additional cost.

Russell Turner, Masterspec CEO says "We are thrilled to embark upon this new partnership with Steel Construction New Zealand (SCNZ) to combine the expertise, experience and online services of our two organisations to serve the New Zealand Structural Steel Industry.

As a fully industry-owned body, Masterspec is committed to industry collaboration and investment, to bring valuable design documentation resources to the construction industry and benefits to New Zealand. We look forward to working with SCNZ to develop the capabilities and innovative online platforms needed for a future with increased quality and accessibility of construction data and documentation".

This partnership signals commitment from Masterspec and SCNZ to develop resources for the Structural Steel Construction Industry to meet industry demand for consistent design documentation and guidelines for best-practice construction methods, delivered through innovative digital platforms.
