SPECIFYING SCNZ STRUCTURAL STEEL ON MASTERSPEC

Structural Steel New Zealand (SCNZ) has had a Structural Steel specification document based on AS/NZS 5131 since 2018. However, a new industry partnership between SCNZ and Masterspec has culminated in a new Structural Steel specification system based on our combined expertise. The new Masterspec SCNZ system brings together uncompromising expert content, with versatile, customisable, proven format and functionality, on a quick, advanced, modern platform.

The core specification sections are:
3411S for general supply, fabrication, transportation and erection
3419S general quality requirements
3415S for Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel (AESS) for projects that include AESS work
The Schedule sections, 3411S1, 3411S1and 3411S1 automatically down load with 3411S and 3419S and may or may not be required.
SCNZ System
The Masterspec SCNZ system is a standalone system on the Cloud based Masterspec Gen2 platform. It is smaller than other systems like the Masterspec Structural & Civil system, and only consisting of the 6 SCNZ sections grouped under Coordinated Building Information (CBI) 3 Structure, there are also a few supporting CBI 1 General sections and CBI 6 Finish sections. There are no Branded sections included.
Using the whole SCNZ system, if required, allows a standalone structural steel project specification to be created. The General sections (1220 to 1260) covering project general matters and the Finish sections (6700 to 6782) covering finishes to structural steel. These other sections are included as they are either, cited in and used by the SCNZ sections, or required to support the SCNZ sections.
Like all Masterspec Systems (except Masterspec Minor) SCNZ sections can be used in a Masterspec project team specification environment.

SCNZ Schedule Sections
3411S1
SCNZ SCHEDULE OF SUBMITTALS
Automatically downloads with 3411S, and covers Contractor submittal requirements to AS/NZS 5131 for SFC or non-SFC certified contractors. The tables in the section link submittal items to - specification sections, timeframes, stage (Hold, Notify, Review).
3411S2
SCNZ SCHEDULE OF INDEPENDENT INSPECTION
Automatically downloads with 3411S, and covers the provisions for independent inspections by non-SFC Contractors for CC2 to CC4 projects only. Section not required for SFC Contractors and CC1 0nly projects.
3411S3
SCNZ MANUFACTURERS DATA REPORT (MDR)
Automatically downloads with 3419S, and covers Contractor submission of MDR for CC1 to CC4 projects. This requirement is not mandatory to AS/NZS 5131 and so is optional, however it is recommended by SCNZ particularly for larger and more complex/critical structural steel projects.
SCNZ Schedule Sections Q&A
Although the SCNZ Schedule sections download automatically, each of their Question & Answer (Q&A) pre-edit facilities need to be initiated manually. To do this in Masterspec NextGen2, set the particular SCNZ Schedule section to "Edit" mode, and click on the "Re-run the Q&A for this section" button in the tool bar/ribbon above. The Q&A for that section will then run. You don't have to memorise this, there is a reminder in the green Guidance Notes at the very beginning of each SCNZ Schedule section.
SCNZ Schedule sections that have automatically downloaded, but are not required, will have to be manually deleted.
Combining SCNZ sections with Masterspec Structural and Civil System
For those with Masterspec Structural and Civil, you can still build a large, full project specification, encompassing all structural materials. You can do this on Masterspec NextGen2 by moving between the SCNZ system to download SCNZ sections and the Structural & Civil system to download any other sections into your project specification.
PLEASE NOTE: The SCNZ sections (3411S, 3411S1, 3411S2, 3411S3, 3415S, 3419S)
should not be used/mixed
with the equivalent Masterspec Structural & Civil (non-SCNZ, 3411, 3415, 3419) structural steel sections. However purlin and girt branded sections under CBI 3412 can be used.
