WORKING TOGETHER - MASTERSPEC INTEROPERABILITY

01 Oct 2021

Masterspec extends to many areas of the construction sector, that’s why we’ve made sure it’s versatile and interoperable!

This month, we’ll be focusing on four areas that Masterspec can assist your construction specification process. These functions will maximise your digital construction processes and ensure you are able to collaborate easily with others.

Let’s kick it off with the first topic: Using Different Libraries Together

Delivering your clients vision and project requirements can be made easier by using a combination of work sections from Masterspec’s eight libraries. With Masterspec’s platform capabilities and industry leading CBI classification systems, the combinations and flexibilities are endless.

If you are designing a residential project, you may be working within the Basic library. However, you may want to use a commercial window profile from our Standard library. If you have access to these libraries, then the integration is seamless! Any Masterspec sections from any library can work together thanks to the power of CBI. Or maybe you are a structural engineer. With the SCNZ steel structural library, you can use it as a standalone system, or you can combine it with the Masterspec structural and civil library.

The second way to use Masterspec’s interoperability is to re-use Office Masters and Work Sections from other projects.

Help save time and increase efficiency when creating your building specifications. Most specifiers like a familiar palette of products or often have repeatable project typologies, so why not use Office Masters? Masterspec allows you to save your own product specification favourites in your own office library. You can use these at any time in the future to start a new project with a flying start. Best of all, if you have previous customised and researched section content, you can save even more time by basing your new office master from your own current specification projects. Simply maintain your very own customised Office Master by using the update manager. You’ll even receive notifications to help keep your specification content up to date, so you can maintain your content in just a few clicks.

Our third topic is: Granting Access to External Consultants

Digital collaboration with other Masterspec practice professionals is simple. Masterspec has over 1800 subscribing practices across the construction sector. If you know their email address, you can give other Masterspec specifiers a range of access rights to any of your specifications. As a skilled professional working on your design, from time to time, you may need to collaborate with another construction professional. For example, you may want input from another consultant, such as design, structural, fire, interior fit-out, or a landscape architect. If they are a masterspec practice, then it’s a simple system to grant and remove access instantly to other consultants all under the same project umbrella. This also ensures the whole process is carried out in the one document and can be worked on collaboratively.

Lastly, our fourth topic. Working in Between Multiple Practices.

Did you know can switch between practices within the Masterspec platform? If you’ve recently changed jobs or are a contractor for a number of practices or consultancies, then your current login can gain you access to multiple practices. First, you will need the administrator to update the practice permission with your Masterspec username as an accepted user to that practice. Then, all you need to do is locate the ‘My Details’ tab while logged into your Masterspec account and simply ‘disconnect’ and ‘reconnect’ to jump to and from the organisations you have permission to access. Just note that you may need to reinstate your permissions when changing practices. Follow us on social media for more Masterspec tips.
